Let's be realistic. We have a responisbility as Civil War Reenactors to portray our heritage correctly. Many people watch Gone With the Wind and think that is exactly how it was. I am sorry to burst their bubble, but research really needs to come directly from original photos and dresses from personal and museum collections. Gone With the Wind was Hollywood's 1930's interpretation, not truely how it was.
As time allows, I will be posting more research here for you to compare. As a reenactor, the question you need to ask yourself is, "Do I look like this?" "Do I represent her?" Compare your dresses, hair, jewlery, fabric, everything! For example, you can have a beautiful period correct dress, but if you ignore your hair and wear a modern style, it ruins your whole impression. If you have a question and would like to chat about it, please feel free to email me and I will be happy to discuss and help you with research for your impression. I have over 3000+ photos and documents I will be happy to share. hlstanley1@gmail.com
